SPACE CLEARING
Space clearing is a practice that has been found throughout almost all cultures
across the ages, regardless of the belief system that held sway. It may be seen
as the art of bringing a home or other property into balance and harmony with
those who live or work there, of creating a sanctuary where the occupants may
feel protected, supported, healthy and happy. Although it is sometimes known as
creating sacred space, space clearing is a powerful tool that may be used for
the benefit of all, regardless of religious background or denomination or total
lack of spiritual belief.
Our homes mirror ourselves and our lives, as can be seen from the way in which
energy practioners on TV can “read” the story of the occupants just from being
in the house. When we make positive changes to the energy of our home, this
then reflects back to us, allowing us to move on to what we truly want and
deserve. On the other hand, living in a space that makes us feel unhappy,
uncomfortable, depressed and overwhelmed is simply going to cause us stress and
hold us back from our true potential.
Let’s suppose that you went out one night, wearing your all-time favourite
outfit (perhaps you may even consider it “lucky” in some way). If something
exceedingly distasteful were to happen when you were wearing it, perhaps
discovering that your partner had been cheating on you, would that change how
you feel about the outfit? For many people, they would feel that they never
wanted to have it near them again, because of the unpleasant associations that
it would bring to mind. At the very least, they would give it a super-clean to
try and get rid of the unhappy memories, possibly dousing it in perfume or
after-shave to imprint the owner’s sense of self on the fabric and on the
situation.
That is all well and good if you’re looking
at a top, but what do you do with something considerably larger, such as a
house. If you were to discover your partner being unfaithful in your own home,
how would you manage to purge the memory of that and all the subsequent
unpleasantness? A house, flat, room or even bed cannot fit into a washing
machine, bath or vat of disinfectant. You might choose to dispose of a bed
mattress but often you will have to continue living in the same home for some
time at least, and perhaps indefinitely, no matter how you may feel about it.
Space clearing offers a powerful solution in
such an instance. Effectively what the practioner does is to go around the
property and spring clean at a deep level. Although to all intents and
purposes, this is invisible on a physical level, many people can immediately
feel the changes that take place in the atmosphere. They generally realise over
the next few days and weeks that they don’t feel as stressed, angry, or
victimised as they did, becoming aware of how they may now move forward in a
positive way in their lives.
As properties show the history of all those
who have lived there before, it is important to put your own mark on a new home
by clearing out any energetic junk and stains that have been left behind.
Supposing you were to buy a new property from just such a family who have had
to sell up because of marital break-up, what feelings do you suspect might
still be left in the air? Not just that, but you will often find that there has
been a pattern of such break-ups at the property! Perhaps this is not the best
way to start family life in your dream home.
So, what is space clearing and how does it work?
Space clearing is the technique of cleaning the energetic space in a structure
and then inviting in fresh, healing energy that is supportive of the specific
needs and visions of the occupiers.
Every space clearing ceremony is unique, as each individual is unique and each
space is also different. However, the common thread that underlies space
clearing work is that the property is first cleared of stuck, stagnant energy
and predecessor “chi” or energy – in other words, other people’s history – and
is purified before the new intention for the space is keyed into it and finally
sealed.
The variety of tools used in the process is as wide as the range of those doing
the clearing, be that a professional space clearer (sometimes known as an
Interior Alignment™ Practioner) or the homeowner. Amongst those most commonly
used are drumming or clapping to break up really stuck energy in corners, a
special space clearing bell, sage, fine incense or beautiful room sprays –
generally made from a combination of essences and aromatherapy oils - for the
clearing and purification stages. Sprays and tinkling bells or rattles are
frequently used to set the intention. Crystals are often used to hold the
energy, once it has been set. If any geomantic work were required, this would
normally be done at the beginning, to allow time for the detrimental energies to
dissipate.
To be really effective, a space clearing would ideally be done in combination
with other processes, such as treating geopathic stress, and clutter clearing.
While space clearing is a wonderful
technique for energetically spring cleaning your home and setting your
intention for the coming year, I would advise anyone who is aware of having
serious energetic problems in their space to be very cautious about trying it
themselves. In this instance, space clearing can stir up the prevailing energies
to a very uncomfortable degree. So, if you feel that your property suffers from
geopathic stress or spirit activity, you might well need to call a professional
to clear it for you.
