SPIRIT RELEASE

Perhaps one should begin by asking, “What is a spirit?”
The Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary gives two definitions for “spirit (NOT BODY)” and each has a part to play in the answer.

The first definition is:
the characteristics of a person that are considered as being separate from the body, and which many religions believe continue to exist after the body dies:
Although he's now living in America, I feel he's with me in spirit (= I feel he is present and is influencing me, in a way that is not physical).

The second definition is:
the form of a dead person, similar to a ghost, or the presence of a dead person which you can feel but not see

Although it is exceedingly difficult to guesstimate how many people are likely to have encountered such spirits, it is fair to say that there will generally be one or more spirits at most properties that I am called to visit. Obviously, we are more likely to be called to properties where the energy is quite heavy, or stuck, where spirits may more easily get stuck, so I do not mean in any way to suggest that there may be spirits in most homes or offices.

While it is probably fair to say that most westerners do not see “ghosts”, there are a considerable number of people who can, or who have some awareness of energetic beings that are generally considered, at best, to be “invisible” or more likely, a figment of the imagination. Therefore, for those who do have experience of spirit activity, not only do they have the stress of sharing their living spaces with spirits, but they do so in the full knowledge that most people would laugh at them or think they were somewhat demented should they make their concerns public.

Many geomancers and energy practioners are very aware of the existence of the spirit world, whether they actually “see” spirits themselves or not. We certainly have considerable understanding of the impact that spirits may have on those who have to live with them. This should not be construed as a belief that spirits are “evil” (most spirits are no more or less evil than the rest of us); it is a simple recognition that it can be very difficult sharing one’s space with anyone else, living or dead.

Spirits tend to fall into a number of different categories, but how someone else would categorise them may well vary considerably from my own personal system.

Earthbound Spirits

Closest to ourselves are “Earthbound Spirits” as they are generally known. I feel great compassion for these spirits as they are just the same as us, except that they no longer have a body, and have somehow ended up getting stuck in our dimension. Frequently are unaware that they have died. Sometimes called “discarnate spirits” or “discarnates”, they have often died a sudden death, perhaps through a violent cause, but more likely suffered accidental death, or maybe they even could have just died in their sleep. Occasionally, the spirit has clung on to this world for a specific reason, e.g. a young mother wishing to try and look after her children. The difficultly is that this world moves on, the children grow up, but the spirit is still left here, unable to proceed onward on its journey.

What does seem to happen is that discarnate spirits go where they feel comfortable, and this will often be their last home, or a previous home, business or even their favourite corner of the pub! Most spirits do not intend any harm at all towards the new occupiers of the properties concerned, but they are often confused why total strangers have moved in to their home and why they’re changing everything around and digging up the garden. One could see how this would be a trifle annoying – put yourself in the previous owner’s position.

For us, the incarnates, I guess you could call us, imagine how you would feel if you came home from work one day to find that old Mr Jenkins or whoever the previous owner of your property may have been, had decided to move back in! Forget about your favourite chair; he’s moved his beside it or just in front of it, and wants to watch his favourite TV programme, not yours, thank you very much. Do you think that you might start to feel a little stressed or irritable because of this kind of behaviour? I rather suspect so; I certainly wouldn’t be too keen to have a total stranger move into my home, and decide he knows best about how it should look. What I’m trying to explain here is that it’s exactly the same with a “discarnate spirit” or “earthbound spirit”; no matter how sweet and kind they may be, it is not really that terribly appropriate to have them sharing our space. You know how you seem to pull yourself in when you’re on a train or Tube; that’s probably how you are most of the time if you’re sharing your living or working space with a spirit.

There are some people (incarnates, that is) who know that there are spirits present in their immediate environment and who are quite happy to have them there; in fact, one occasionally comes across a client who says that he or she feels safe and comfortable having the spirits close by. While such a statement can be understandable at times, one would suspect that generally it would be better for both the living and the dead if the spirit is allowed, and gently helped, to move onward. After all, who are we to keep fellow souls from their evolutionary paths. Furthermore, the living often find that once the spirits have been released, they find it easier to bond with other people and make friends or form new relationships as there isn’t a constant third party present.

In terms of spirit release, the process that I, and many of my colleagues, use is very gentle. We always try to work with compassion. love and kindness, rather than force, fear and disdain. Unlike many banishment or exorcism techniques, we actively seek to ensure that the spirit is guided to wherever it needs to be in the universe, and that he or she receives any help or healing required. As mortals, we do not have all the answers so we ask for Divine assistance in ensuring all of this happens as it should.

A Brief Note About Ghosts

Many “ghosts” fall into a different category from “earthbound spirits”. What we tend to regard as ghosts are not spirits in the true sense but something akin to a holographic image. This group would include sightings such as Headless Horsemen, White Ladies or Queens seeking rescue.
As far as I understand the phenomenon, an image of a moment of intense emotion somehow becomes trapped, generally in one particular spot. At particular moments in the future, such as when the viewer feels an equally intense emotion, the image can be replayed, rather like triggering a photographic image that can only be seen from one direction. It doesn’t have real presence and cannot move around, so it is not actually a spirit. Perhaps it is not surprising that these type of ghosts are seen when an individual is already feeling “spooked” and fearful, or in historic sites with a significant history. They also tend to be seen more easily in damp and gloomy weather conditions.

Other Forms of Consciousness

It is probably worthwhile to point out that while many of the spirits that people are likely to encounter are human discarnates, and no more evil or angelic than the rest of us, there are a number of other forms of consciousness to be found within the landscape. While we humans stick to our own patch and let these beings, such as elementals and nature spirits, have their own space, everything should be fine.

Unfortunately, due to the increasing press for development land, much of it land that may previously been green-field sites such as woodland or countryside, our world is encroaching on the natural territory of some of these other beings. While they are rarely malign, their energy is very different to our own and we may find it challenging living with them close by. Some of them may seem dark and grumpy and can be felt as cold spots or can cause headaches while others may seem light and mischievous and hide our keys. They generally mean us no harm and are probably at least as confused by us as we are by them.

As mentioned with regard to human discarnates, it can, however, feel really uncomfortable sharing our homes and business premises with some of these life forms. Once again, a geomancer will call for assistance in ensuring that any such beings that are found in a space are gently taken to wherever they can live in peace and contentment away from humankind, as well as generally clearing any residual energies that have been left behind.

And Finally, A Word of Caution

While most of you reading this may be thinking “This is nothing but a fairy tale”, there are others who will understand completely as it will probably go close to describing some of their own feelings and experiences. I really hope and trust that just reading this will have helped you in some way; many people in similar situations find relief in just having confirmation that they’re not just imagining it, or that they’re not the only person on the planet to be in a particular situation.
Unfortunately, there may also be a few readers whose experiences go far beyond anything that I have mentioned up to this point. The last thing in the world that I want to do is alarm anyone, or frighten anyone, so I am not going to go into any depth about the rather more scary situations that arise very, very occasionally.

What I would like to do, however, is to issue a plea; please, whatever else you do, keep away for the ouiji board. It may seem like a tame little parlour trick, but it’s actually quite dangerous, and frequently results in some rather nasty consequences. From a professional point of view, it is recognised as one of the easiest ways of getting into serious trouble with some very unpleasant spirits. If I, or any of my colleagues, are told that someone has been doing the ouiji board at a house, in no matter how light-hearted a manner, we immediately smell trouble. If we take on such a case, there is actually the possibility that we will not be able to solve all of the problems. So, no matter how intriguing or how much fun it may sound, please steer clear for your own sake and safety, as well as the safety of those near you.

On a more routine level, abuse of hallucinatory drugs or large quantities may find increase the likelihood of coming into contact with unpleasant spirits, and of opening yourself and your home up to situations that might best be avoided. For more information click here
